Flash Photography Basics

  • Every flash photograph is two exposures in one.
  • Fill Flash can be used when subject is backlit or sidelit to eliminate silhouettes or shadows.
  • Flash exposure is not affected by shutter speed.
  • Flash illumination is dramatically affected by distance.
  • Your camera measures ambient light and flash illumination separately.
  • With automatic flash metering, the flash illumination is measured after the shutter button is pressed, and the flash output is adjusted accordingly.
  • Every SLR camera with a mechanical shutter box has a maximum flash sync shutter speed.
  • Harsh lighting, washed out subjects and red eye can be eliminated by using diffusers and light bouncing.
  • It is possible to change the order of when the flash fires using "Rear Curtain Sync".
  • Removing the flash from the top of the camera helps eliminate red eye and unflattering shadows.

Event shoot 1 review

http://jamiedjournalismblog.blogspot.com/
1. I like the first photo of Shannon Barry the most because it has good composition and facial expressions.
2. My least favorite photo is the group picture with the signs. I wish the lighting was better to see the persons faces more clearly.
3. Your photos have great composition. You are great at capturing emotion in peoples facial expressions.
4. One thing that could be improved on is lighting. Making the image clear enough to really see their faces.

Painting Reproduction review

1. I think Rachel did a really good job recreating this painting. The girls and the kettle were positioned perfectly. The only difference I see is the colors in the wall.
2. I do think the photographer did an acceptable job. With a little editing of the wall colors, it'd be perfect!

6 station Peer Review

1. My favorite image is the black acrylic picture. The picture features an elephant which is my favorite animal. I like it because I love how she portrays the toy elephant and the colors are very vibrant.
2. My least favorite image is the portrait picture. Dawson and Brenda could've had clearer facial expressions. I dont think the composition of the photo was handled really well. The edges of their body were cropped out.
3. I love the vibrancy and use of colors in your images. I also like the close-up composition of them, besides the portrait, they were all very clear.
4. One thing I think this person could improve on would be group photo shoots.
